Patents Hitlist Results

When the search is completed, the documents are automatically displayed as a Result List, lot 25 records per page. This number can be changed (up to 200 documents) via option available Results by page in your Profile.

In the upper part of the screen, the text reminds you Orbit research performed and the number of responses.

When using a column display (as default/compact or abstract view), you can sort your results by clicking on some column headers. This function is limited to hitlists with up to 10,000 records. Above this limit, you will not be able to change the default sorting of the records (by relevance).

By default, results are sorted by relevancy score. A relevancy score is displayed in the results list (relevance score). This score is determined by an algorithm based on the combination of the following parameters: the nature of the field containing the keywords, the proximity of words in the document and the presence of keywords in different member of the same family.

It is also indicated the name of the desired collection: FamPat, FullPat or Full text (Fulltext).

For Fulltext collection in the All button (available in the toolbar) you can scroll the list to view the number of results obtained by selected base and the basis for choosing to display.

According to the desired collection features the hit list may vary. That is why we will indicate their availability depending on the collection.

Sometimes, a message will appear with “Term not found” on the top right corner of the hitlist. This indicates that some words from your query are not found in all or a part of fields used by the query.

Columns

The quantity and information contained in the columns depends on how you choose to display the list, which you can do by clicking the Display button.

Regardless of the display lists chosen, the 1st column is the one linked to the lists' Drag and Drop function (see section about lists), the 2nd columns that of the selection (see section about the toolbar), and lastly, the 3rd column is a patent family's presence in a workfile created in the Workfile module and indicated by the icon . The name(s) of the workfile(s) can be found in the mouse-over window.

If your results list contains less than 5000 families, you can sort by clicking the header columns. The default sort is numerical ascending or alphabetical ascending. To reverse the order, open again click on the header of the column. Non sortable columns are published number, IPC codes, CPC codes, ECLA codes, US codes, JP codes and actions.

To cancel the sort, you must rerun the search.

After a similarity search, the result list is sorted by relevance (relevance score). For the Fulltext collection, the sort button is not available if you have selected a source. When you have done a sort on the overall results (without selecting databases), remove sorting in order to have access to the selection of bases again.
