The display of documents from a result list (hitlist or “My List”) is automatically filtered.
The number of families in a filtered set is indicated in the tab at the top of the results list for each value of the filter options.
Clicking on the values in the filter generates a combination of your initial search statement with the selected value of the filter, and a new hitlist with the filtered results is displayed. Each filter value selected creates an AND combination with the last search statement and with other selected filter values. These search statements generated by filter value selections are added to your Search History.
In the Filter menu, a blue check or tick symbol will show in front of each value selected in the filter. Clicking on this check symbol cancels the filter for that value and returns to the last search statement or to your initial search statement if only one value was selected.
The filter option is not available for:
• FamPat/Fullpat searches of more than 50,000 families
• FamPat/Fullpat results grouped by extended patent families
• individual Fulltext collections
• By default, the filter is displayed.
Managing the filter options
Clicking on the Filter Options button opens a window for managing filter options.
By default, three options are provided in the Filter display panel:
• Legal Status
• 1st application year
• Assignee
• Litigations
• Oppositions
Seven other options may be added from Available Filters:
• 1st publication year
• Publication country
• CPC classification
• IPC classification
• US PCL classification
• Licensed
• Standards
The arrows allow for modification of the filter options for display (add, remove, change the order). It is necessary to first select one or more options before using the arrows. In order to select options that follow one another, the “shift” key on your keyboard may also be used, and to select options that do not follow one another, the “ctrl” key may be used.
