Document View

Clicking directly on the blue publication number of a document in the hitlist brings up the document view. Family and member information can be displayed via several tabs.

Clicking on the Back to the list button returns you to the hitlist.

Tabs related to Patent Families

The central area is divided in two; you can display tabs to the right and left.The button opens a dropdown menu showing other tabs that you can choose to display.In the dropdown menu, you can uncheck the tabs you no longer want to display.

The button collapses the right-hand part, and likewise the  buttoncollapses the left-hand menu.

The  arrowsallow you to display the titles of tabs and thereby choose a tab by clicking on the title.

The tabs can be detached by clicking on You can then display multiple tabs alongside one another.

The default left tabs are Bibliography, Claims, Description, Key Content, and Full Text, while the default right tabs are:Image, Highlighting Graph, Designs, Cover Page, and Full.

Biblio tab

You have access to the following information: title, abstract of representative family member, inventor(s), assignee(s), patent assignee history, original assignee, representative(s), the family table, the designated countries, and Published As table, classifications (US, IPC,CPC, ECLA) for all family members. Classifications definitions can be viewed by clicking on the blue codes. The asterisk lets you mark the main CPC, IPC, and US classes.

In the List of publications, for each publication step of each member; the publication office, the publication number, the publication date, the application date, the document type, and the links are indicated.

From the Links column, you can display:

      The member's facsimile by clicking on the icon

      Digipat login page (File History command) by clicking on the icon

      information from the Maxval module in the event of litigation by clicking on the  icon. Displaying the information requires a subscription.

      the ktMINE information about the licenses, by clicking on the  icon. Displaying the information requires a subscription.

Whether these links are included in your exports can be set in User Settings/General.

The cited patents and cited literature are present in the tab.

For cited patents, the patent number is a link to its bibliography file.

The Translate button lets you choose the language and perform a translation using the Google Translate tool.

Only the content from the viewed tab can be translated.

Whenever a tab and/or family is changed, you will need to request a new translation.

Using the Translate button opens a pop-up window containing the translation in the requested language.

There will be one window opened for each tab translation requested.

The button shows the tab as it will be printed. In addition to printing, you can save the file.

Claims tab

Representative family member claims are displayed. The claims coverage is:

Key content tab

Extracts of fulltext are displayed : the patent object, advantages and drawbacks, and independent claims for US, EP and WO documents published in English. PCTs (not including those published in Korean) machine-translated into English are also used. FR and CN publications have also key content.

Full text tab

Available titles in English (official or machine translation), in French and in German are displayed with abstract, claims and description from the representative family member and with inventor(s), assignee(s), representative(s), Published As table, priority details, and classifications from all family members.

Notes tab (non-detachable)

A user may add a note to a family. Notes will display for all members of the family and cannot be limited to specific family members. All users (“Readers”) will be able to view the notes. To add a note, click on Publish note after selecting the Notes tab. This will bring up a popup box for your comments. A title is required. The note is published when you click on Ok or, if you change your mind, simply click on Cancel.

In the popup box, notes are displayed with the e-mail of the note creator and date/hour of creation.  You can modify your note with the Edit button or eliminate it with Delete.     

Number of notes per family is indicated in parentheses in the tab.

Content of notes may be searched using the Search button at the top of the screen.

Readers can add notes and view all added by the expert and the other readers.

Attachments tab (non-detachable)

With this option, an authorized user may add an attachment to a family (as with the Notes tab, display cannot be limited to specific family members).

To add an attachment, click on Insert file after selecting the Attachments tab and a box will pop up allowing you to browse your system to select a file. All files types are supported, however, file size cannot exceed 2MB.

With a click on the OK button the file is inserted,

The Cancel button if you decided not to add the attachment.

From the tab, you can view your attachment. In addition, there is also the description, the author's logon, and the date and time when it was created. Right clicking on the attachment line brings up three options:

      Download: to download file

      Edit: to enter a description

      Delete:  to erase file

The number in parentheses within the tab indicates how many attachments there are. The limit is eight attachments per workfile and eight attachments per document family.

 

The contents of attachments added into patent families can be searched using the search form.

Only readers who are allowed to insert attachments can actually do so. The contents of the attachments are accessible to all readers.

User fields tab (not searchable)

With the User fields tab, you can display a list of user fields assign to a family of documents or assign them.

All fields created are viewed. To assign a field's value, click on (...).

For Date fields, a calendar is present and facilitates input of the date.

For Classification and Multiple Value Selector fields, the list of values defined is presented, and you can select one or more of them. Clicking outside the window makes it possible to close the selection window.

For Single Value Selector fields, the list of values defined is presented, and you can select one of them.

For Text fields, a window opens in which you enter your text with the font, color, etc. that you want.

For Number fields, enter the desired number.

For fields that can only contain one value, the phrase "Replace existing values for selected documents" appears. If that box is checked, the new values replace the old ones. If it is unchecked, the old values are kept.

The Save button confirms the assignment and closes the window.

The Cancel button closes the window without assigning.

The contents of the personal fields can be searched using the search form.

Readers can only view personal fields.

Image tab

All the images are shown.

The images are available at the bottom of the tab; clicking on an images causes it to expand.

The choice of country for displaying the images is based on the priority list:

US, EP, WO, DE, JP, BR, IN, KR, RU, TW, CN, CA and finally GB.

The + sign is used to zoom in. The arrow lets you rotate the image.

The button  shows the tab as it will be printed.

Drawings tab

The drawings mosaic of the representative family member is displayed. The PDF format can be saved and/or printed.

First page tab

The first page of the representative family member is displayed. The PDF format can be saved and/or printed.

Complete tab

The complete facsimile of the representative family member is displayed. The PDF format can be saved and/or printed.

The Highlighting Graph tab (non-detachable)

After applying highlighting, the Keyword statistics graph indicates keywords distribution throughout the family.

A tooltip displays keyword frequency per member when you are on a highlight bar. If you click on a highlight bar, information relative to the selected member is displayed on the left.

Highlight

: Highlighting will be applied to all terms chosen in the text part of the references. It does not apply to the PDF facsimile. The parameters chosen for highlighting will apply to all the references in the search results.  Select the highlight colour by notching the corresponding box and enter the term(s). Highlighting is applied to all the terms in the selected colour box.  For example, if you enter BRAKE PEDAL, as the term to highlight, the word BRAKE will be highlighted with the word PEDAL everywhere where they appear together, regardless of order.

All forms of truncation may be used, and may be applied on the left, right and internal.

      +: Unlimited

      ?: 0 or 1 character

      #: Exactly 1 character

      ? and # : Can be used several times; for example?? = from 0 to 2 characters.

You can enter several terms by colour, which enables you to treat synonyms with the same colour.

Operators are not supported with highlighting.

Click OK to apply the highlighting. 

Highlight can be saved and used again for another set of search results.

To save a highlight profile, give it a name and you click on

Search for your saved profiles using the dropdown menu under My profiles

Erase the name of the profile without clearing the contents of the boxes click on Clear

Delete the profiles from the list click on

Clear erases the keywords.

Apply applies the highlight

OK closes the assistant.

Cancel closes the assistant without applying highlight. 

Hide/Mark occurrences: By default Mark occurrences is active and the icon is colored orange

Hide occurrences:btn_hilight_bar_f2Clicking on the icon changes the hue from orange to neutral.  No highlighting is visible.    

Please Note:

Highlighting applies to a single workfile is not retained when you move to another workfile.

Documents that had highlighting assigned in the Patents Module, that are imported to the workfiles module, will not retain the highlighting from the Patent Search. However highlight profiles saved in Patents Module are listed in My profiles of portfolio highlight. So you can apply a highlighting profile defined in Patents Module to a workfile.

The keywords statistics graph indicates keywords repetition throughout a family. We use only textual fields of each publication, from FAMPAT database ( Title, Abstract, Description and Claims).

Tabs for Designs

Display

The tabs can be detached if you are using Chrome or Firefox as a browser. You can then display multiple tabs alongside one another. By default, the left-hand tabs are All and on the right: Image, Notes, Attachments and Personal Fields.

All

In this tab, you can view: Title, registration number, register, applicant or assignee, applicant or assignee in the original language, application date, publication date, Locarno classification, and all reproductions and their legends.

Clicking on the register's flag takes you to the office's register.

You will also find the registration date, application number, application language(s), name and address of the representative and legal status, number of designs, national class, designation in English and in the original language, creator, name of office, expiration/renewal date, and the assignee's country.

The information found in this tab is specific to each office.

Image

All reproductions are available. When you select an image, it appears expanded in the tab.

Notes (non-detachable)

You can add a note to Designs. To do so, in the Notes tab, choose Publish a note. A window opens, allowing you to indicate a title (mandatory) and write the note. The OK button confirms and publishes the note. The Cancel button closes the window.

From the tab, you can view your note. In addition, there is also the author's email address and the date and time when it was created.

The Edit button is used to reopen the previous window and make changes to it. The Delete button deletes the note.

The number in parentheses within the tab indicates how many notes have been published. 

The contents of the notes can be searched using the search form. 

Readers can add notes and view all added by the expert and the other readers.

Attachments (non-detachable)

You can attach a file to Designs. To do so, in the Attachments tab, choose Insert file. A window opens, allowing you to browse your hard drive to insert a file with the Browse button. All file types are allowed, as long as their sizes does not exceed 2MB.

The OK button confirms and inserts the file.

The Cancel button closes the window.

Personal fields (non-detachable)

In this tab, you can show the personal fields assigned to Designs or assign one or more of them.

The Turn on edit mode button activates the assistant introduced above in the tab..Assigning works the same, except that it is done one document at a time.

The Save button confirms the assignment of fields and values.

The Restore button clears the assignments before saving.

In order to view the assigned fields and their values, you must click on the Turn off edit mode button.

The contents of the personal fields can be searched using the search form.

Readers can only view personal fields.

Navigation tools

The  arrows let you browse between documents. The document’s position is shown with respect to all documents.

The button  opens a window showing keyboard shortcuts, thereby facilitating browsing.

Highlighting (Patent Families only)

Highlighting is available only when you are in a workfile.

The Highlighting Assistant opens when you click the black arrow of the  button.

Six highlight colors are available for defining new words to highlight.

Wildcards are allowed:

      +: unlimited number of characters 

      ?: 0 or 1 characters

      #: 1 character

You can use multiple wildcards within a single word (different wildcards or the same one repeated).

Operators are not supported. Words can be separated by a space or a comma: words separated by space will be highlighted only when the defined expression has been found; words separated by a comma will be highlighted when isolated and/or in an expression.

The highlighting profiles put in place can be saved: To do so, you need to indicate its name and click on the button.  The profile saved in this way can be requested when viewing other hitlists. To do so, you need to expand the list of profiles indicated in "My profiles". The Clear button clears the keywords defined in the profile. The button deletes the list's profile.

The Clear button erases all highlighting or profile selections.  The Apply button applies the highlighting, and the OK button closes the assistant window.  The Cancel button closes the assistant window without applying highlighting.

A rollover window shows the highlighted words and the corresponding color.

The  button is set to Show occurrences by default and is orange. The defined highlighting is then visible in the hitlist and in the tabs. The highlighting creates a hypertext path of all occurrences within the text. This path of highlighted terms appears in the vertical gray bar to the right of the tabs.

Each color line represents the occurrence of one term in the displayed text. Click on a colored marker to go to that occurrence within the text.

To stop showing highlighting, simply click on this button: The rollover window then shows Hide occurrences and the button becomes neutral.

The highlighting applied to a workfile is lost when you change workfiles.

When documents with highlighting that were searched for from the Patents module are sent to a Workfile, the initial highlighting is lost. However, the highlighting profiles defined in the Patents module are accessible in the list of Workfiles module profiles. You can therefore apply a workfile saved from the Patents module to the documents imported into a workfile.

The "Highlighting graph" tab is used to view the distribution of keywords within the family.  

Family view and member view (Patent Families only)

The left-hand part shows the family. All the publication numbers (with the specified publication step) are displayed. Clicking on the number automatically loads the available information. The tabs then display the bibliography, claims, or other information of the selected equivalent.

Quick search line

Atop the document you is a quick search line.

It is used for:

      keywords: The quick search will look in the text fields, Abstract, Full Text, and also the Applicants or Assignees and Inventors.

      numbers: The quick search will look in the Publication, Application, and Priority Number fields.

The search will look in the current workfile, meaning the one you are in.

Quick search is available for Patent Families and Designs. 

The X is used to clear the request.

Move or Duplicate (Expert-only function)

Permalinks (Patents only)

You will receive an email with the list of publication numbers and titles in the email's body. Clicking on a number brings up the document's details (Bibliography with Image only).

Send to recycle bin (Expert-only function)

Documents can be deleted from directories and workfiles using the Discard button. The selected documents marked as deleted are sent to the trash.

Documents remain in the trash for 30 days after being transferred, and are then permanently deleted from your portfolio.

From the Preview tab, you can also individually marked documents as deleted by clicking on the Discard button.

From the trash, you can return the documents to the initial workfiles using the Restore documents button to select documents, or from the Preview tab for individual marking.

Documents in the trash can be searched. 

Mark unread (Expert-only function)

Documents viewed in document view appear as read. By clicking on Mark unread, the read icon will be changed:  .

Rating documents

You can assign a number of stars (rating) for each patent or Design family. Each change to the rating is indicated by email if you have selected this option in your Workfile User Settings.
