Search Form

From the list of documents, the Search tab opens a search form, which you can use to set criteria for finding documents in your workfiles.

Choice of directories/workfiles

The left section shows the your portfolio's tree with the directories and workfiles.You can select the workfile(s) where you want to run your search.Selecting a directory automatically selects the subdirectories and workfiles it contains.

Documents placed in Unwanted Elements and in the Trash are searchable.However, selecting either one is exclusive: The rest of the portfolio becomes unselected.

You can select your entire portfolio (except Unwanted Elements and Trash) by clicking on the selection box next to the buttons  and.

The  icon folds your portfolio to the directory level.

The  button unfolds your portfolio.  

The search fields

Shown below are the available search fields. Some options are specific to Designs.

User fields

Personal fields created and assigned from the document list are searchable. All personal fields created are display.

For Date fields, you can display schedules and search from one date (From), to another date (Until), between two dates (Between) or a specific date (On).

For Multiple Values, Single Value and Classification fields, a dropdown menu is available (by clicking on Select a value): It displays the various values defined for the fields.

For the Multiple Values and Classification fields, when you select multiple values, they are combined by the OR operator.

The personal field entry rows are linked to one another by the AND operator.

You can use wild cards and operators for Text and Number fields.

Command line

You can also use the command line to search within your portfolio. Refer to the FamPat fact sheet for using fields and their codes.

The Search button searches with the criteria defined above.

The Clear button erases the contents of the fields and lets you redefine the criteria.

The results tab

When the search in your portfolio is done, a new page appears. There are two tabs:Patent Families and Designs. For both tabs, the number of hits is indicated.

Please refer to the results tab section, which describes the tabs and actions that you can perform.

The script generated by your search is indicated in the left-hand part under Last Results.

To run a new search, click New Search. This takes you to the search form.
