Representative (Agent)

Search mode

Representative searches are conducted in the RP field, the ORP field, the RPH field and the REP field from legal status.

RP field (Representative name): Name of the most recent representative. This field is present mainly for US, EP, WO, and FR patents.   The representative's country is indicated between brackets (two-letter country codes) when available

ORP field (Original representative name): name of the representative in a non-Latin language. The field is available for CN, JP, KR, TW, RU and WO publications in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. This field should be queried using non-Latin characters

RPH field (Representative name history): name of the representative at all publication steps. The representative's country is indicated between brackets (two-letter country codes) when available

REP field (Representative name legal status): mainly available for DE, EP, and CH patents. It is present when the representative's name has been changed

To run a representative search, enter the Representative's last name in the Representative search box and click the Search button.

Representative names are not standardized, so it is recommended that you search all possible variations of a name. Orbit ignores capitalization and accents.

Different versions of a Representative name can be covered in one search by entering the variations separated by a comma(s).  Likewise, you can enter different variants of a single name by separating them with a comma. The comma is equivalent to the OR operator

Spaces, if used, are the equivalent to W operator.  This means that the position of the first name from the surname is important

Example: GERALD LINDEN find patents where the representative is listed as Gerald Linden but not those listed as Linden Gerald.

Use the unique part of the name; do not search characters such as & or C/O. They should be deleted and replaced with an operator

If you have other search criteria, the Representative Name will be combined with the other criteria using the AND operator .
