Editing Searches

Each search is defined by a name, a script and a collection:

Name: may have a maximum of 30 characters. Accepted are: dashes, slashes, points and spaces. The specified name must be unique: two searches cannot have the same name. The word “from” or “since” is not allowed.

Script: the script is a set of queries you wanted to save. Following a request to save a search from the session search history or from the results list, the script is automatically displayed. You may add lines to the script before saving it if you wish. After saving it, when you redisplay it from your saved search list, each query is numbered. You have the ability to edit your script by inserting new questions (Insert step) or by removing these questions (Delete). Knowledge of command language is required to generate new questions. The Reset script button undoes any changes to the original script you make as long as you have not resaved it. With the View entire script button, a pop-up window will appear with the script of your search with the questions numbered; you then have the option to copy/paste and save.

Collection: the collection (FamPat, Fullpat or Fulltext) selected at the time of the search is retained.

The search can be limited to the week of entry into the FamPat collection or the Fullpat collection:

The most recent: the search will be limited to the most recent documents entered in the collection (not necessarily newly-published, just new to our database).

The past four weeks: the search will be limited to documents entered during the past four weeks (again, not necessarily newly-published, just new to our database).

You can also choose not to limit your search with the option Search all publications.

Once the search is created, you can:

Save: the search is saved and accessible from the My saved searches page. These will remain saved through the duration of your subscription, until you delete them.

Execute: the search is executed, without taking into account any changes you may have made since redisplaying it.

Save and execute: this button is available when your search has already been saved and you have asked to edit it from My Searches. The changes are saved and the search is performed in its new form.

Clear: any new modifications are erased and you find the original script / name of your initial search is displayed.

Searching saved from the FamPat collection originally can be re-executed in another collection: choose the new collection and possibly the specific sources to search (in the case of the Fulltext collection). If you run a search by selecting Execute from the Actions column in the list of saved searches, any change in collection or sources on a previous search page will not be taken into account for the execution. Conversely, if you use the Edit button to modify your search by changing the collection to search and then click on the Save & execute button then it will be saved with the change of collection and/or sources.

Please take into account that some fields are not present in all collections. A message will warn you of the absence of a field, you will need to adapt the script to the collection where you want to perform the search.

Script

The script can contain several independent or related queries. It is a complement to the command line on the General search page.
